Would you like to run a retro Spin the Wheel giveaway?
Take some time to think about the best strategy for generating engagement before getting started.
There are gifts for everyone, daily discounts, grand prize drawings, and instant win games.
Check out these tips for designing a winning prize wheel.
There are two ways to award prizes: the Spin the Wheel game that can also be combined with other games.
With Easypromos' prize wheel app, you can give away prizes in two different ways: by probability or by Instant Win.
You can also combine the two options in one promotion if you want to distribute prizes in your Spin the Wheel promotion.
Why would you choose either of them?
Prizes awarded based on probability
A mathematical calculation is used to determine the prizes to be given away.
This is a good idea if you have lots of small prizes to give away.
You have a 70% chance of winning a prize if your prize wheel has 20 sections with 14 prizes and 6 empty slots.
(and a 30% chance of getting an empty section without a prize).
In this case, 7 players would receive a prize.
There are three different prizes in this Halloween prize wheel promotion example.
Each prize appears twice on the wheel, resulting in a total of 6 prizes.
A player has a 50% chance of winning something if six blank spaces on the wheel are filled.
Instant Win Prizes with Picker Wheel
In an Instant Win giveaway, each prize is awarded at a specific time, chosen by you in advance.
Therefore, users are playing two games, even if they don't realize it.
To find out what prize they could win, the first spin the wheel.
Second, the Instant Win dynamic determines whether or not they win based on the timing.
Both ways of awarding prizes are random.
The only difference between them is whether prizes are awarded based on probability or based on timing.
Picker wheels: how to determine which award to give?
Are you unsure which option to select? You don't have to worry.
Having walked thousands of clients through their first prize wheel giveaway, we've figured out 3 rules for choosing the right prize system.
Consider awarding prizes based on probability if you want to give everyone a prize.
If you have many prizes (merch, discounts, small gifts, etc.) and want your followers to have fun, this is the best option.
In order to give a prize to at least half of the players, you should also choose the probability option.
Select Instant Win if you want to offer prizes to less than 50% of players.
Several other factors should be considered
The Instant Win option is ideal if there are more players than prizes.
It will be too soon for the prizes to run out if you choose the probability option.
In this case, you would prefer the probability option.
You can choose when to award the prizes when you choose Instant Win. Use it to give away a few select prizes to your followers.
When to time your giveaway for maximum effect
Spin the Wheel is a game you want to play as well as possible.
But what if there are not enough prizes? When is the best time to give away the grand prize?
Here are our recommendations.
Delaying large prizes
If you plan to give away prizes based on probability, but you also have a grand prize which you want to award at a specific time, then you have two options:
Set up the prize so that it can’t be awarded before a specific date. On this date, the prize will come into play.
Participants will have the same chance to win it as any of the other prizes.
Wait until the spin the wheel game has closed, then run a random grand prize draw for everyone who registered to play.
You could also restrict the prize draw to specific participants (for example, anyone who didn’t win a prize from the wheel, to begin with).
When you create a grand prize for your contest, you’ll be able to choose whether it is awarded by “Spinning the Wheel” or “By Random Draw”.
Making sure the prize wheel doesn’t run out of rewards
If your spin the wheel promotion runs out of prizes, the wheel will not deactivate automatically.
The game will stay open – but the players won’t win anything.
So you’ll need to keep an eye on the number of prizes available throughout the promotion.
You can shut the game down manually as soon as the prizes have all been awarded.
We recommend taking this step so that your followers aren’t disappointed.

With a wheel spinner, you can give away a few prizes over several days.
If you want to give away coupons or discounts, you can set these up as Instant Win rewards on a prize wheel.
The wheel-spinning dynamic makes the rewards more interactive and exciting.
With this option, you can also control how often discounts are awarded.
For example, you could give away two discounts every day.
The example below comes from a St. Patrick’s Day promotion.
The bar gave away a few discounts on St. Patrick’s Day, then halted the promotion.
Spin the Wheel games with extra entry requirements
Another popular type of Spin the Wheel promotion is when you reward customers for making a purchase.
It’s easy: you simply set up extra requirements, such as uploading a receipt or validating a code, to access the prize wheel.
This instantly limits the number of players and makes sure that the prizes are given away gradually.
We recommend this type of game for promotions that last several weeks.
You’ll need plenty of time to advertise the rewards, and for customers to make purchases and join the promotion.
You can award prizes by probability or with Instant Win, depending on how many prizes and customers you expect to have.
In the example below, a restaurant wanted to encourage more diners to visit them.
Once diners had paid their bill, they received a receipt with a unique code on it, giving them access to a prize wheel full of restaurant discounts.
This was a great way to reward customers and keep them coming back for more.
